Terms of service
Last updated
The short version
- Java Assistant provides private tutoring and academic support. By using the website or the app, you agree to these terms.
- Card payments are processed by Paddle, which acts as the seller for those orders.
- Use what you learn honestly: follow your school’s rules on what help is allowed.
Who we are
These terms are an agreement between you and Java Assistant (“we”, “us”), which operates javaassistant.com and the Java Assistant mobile app (together, “the service”). We have offered tutoring since 2019, for university and school students in Lebanon, the Gulf, Europe and the United States.
Accepting these terms
By creating an account, placing a request or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you and is responsible for your use of the service.
What we provide
Depending on what you choose, the service includes:
- Private tutoring sessions, online or in person, bought as packages of hours.
- Group classes, where you buy a seat in a scheduled class.
- Project support: guided help with a specific assignment or project, quoted individually before any work starts.
We vet every tutor before they teach and match you with one based on your subject, level and availability. We aim to keep the service running smoothly, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
Academic integrity
Our tutoring and project support exist to help you understand your material. You are responsible for following the academic integrity rules of your school or university, including its rules on collaboration and on submitting work as your own.
We may refuse or stop any request that we believe is meant to break those rules, such as sitting an exam on your behalf.
Acceptable use
When using the service, you must not:
- Break the law, or use the service for fraud or spam.
- Harass, threaten or abuse tutors, students or our staff.
- Copy, resell or share material from the service in a way that infringes someone’s rights.
- Try to arrange or pay for sessions with a tutor outside the service.
- Interfere with the service’s security, including by probing, scraping or uploading malware.
Prices and payment
The price of a package, seat or project is shown to you before you pay. Prices can vary by country, level and package size.
Card payments are handled by our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record for these orders and also handles returns and customer service for the payment itself. When you pay by card, Paddle’s buyer terms apply to that payment: Paddle buyer terms
When you pay by bank transfer, Whish, OMT or another method we accept, you pay Java Assistant directly, and your hours are added once the team has checked your receipt.
Every purchase is a one-time payment. We do not charge you again automatically.
Cancellations and refunds
How cancellations, unused hours and refunds work is set out in our refund policy: Refund policy
Intellectual property
Java Assistant owns the service, including its software, design, name and logo. You may use the service for your own learning only.
You keep the rights to files you upload. You allow us to store and share them with your tutor and our staff as far as needed to provide the service.
Suspending or closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account if:
- you seriously or repeatedly break these terms,
- a payment is not made or is reversed,
- we reasonably suspect fraud or a security risk.
You can close your account at any time by contacting us. Unused hours are handled under the refund policy.
Our responsibility
Tutoring helps you learn, but we cannot guarantee a particular grade or result. To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid for the package, seat or project it relates to.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Lebanon. Before going to court, please contact us: most problems are solved quickly that way.
